Synopsis:

The film immerses us in the life of Agustín Gómez Arcos, a writer from Almería who achieved remarkable success on the French literary scene in the 1970s, while remaining largely unknown in his native Spain. In France, his novels were read by millions, translated into more than a dozen languages, and included in secondary school curricula. He was also shortlisted for the prestigious Prix Goncourt on six occasions.

Gómez Arcos chose to write in French as a way of refusing silence and preserving the memory of those defeated by Franco’s dictatorship. His literary success, public appearances, and outspoken ideas reveal a visionary figure who anticipated debates on democratic memory, feminism, and gender and sexual identity.

After decades of neglect, Spanish publisher Cabaret Voltaire began translating and publishing his novels in Spain for the first time in 2006. Today, his work has been rediscovered by new generations, and the recovery of his legacy stands as one of the great unfinished tasks of Spanish culture.
