The Song of Sway Lake is an original romantic drama with a fascinating atmosphere about youth, love, nostalgia and the dark side of the golden age of Jazz in America. Its powerful soundtrack has been composed by the director’s brother, Ethan Gold, with suggestive themes interpreted by John Grant and The Staves.
After the tragic death of his father, young jazz collector Olli Sway (Rory Culkin) recruits his only friend, the aimless young Russian (Robert Sheenan), to help him steal the first version of a hit song vintage of World War II called Sway Lake, from his own family’s summer residence. His plan is complicated when his accomplice falls in love with Ollie’s aristocratic grandmother, the glamorous Charlie Sway (Mary Beth Peil), who sees the glory of her youth reflected in the young Russian.
